Reminders
How reminders work, and what to do when they do not arrive.
How reminders work
A reminder is a notification sent at a time you choose, to remind you about that habit.
Under Days you pick the weekdays you want it on. If you select no day, the notification is sent every day.
With a Monthly frequency, reminders are sent only on the days you selected. A day like the 31st does not exist in every month, so to be reminded in those months as well select Last of month, which always fires on the real last day.
You can replace the notification text with a Custom message.
Everything is scheduled on the phone. Reminders work with no connection and pass through no server.
Reminders do not arrive
Almost always it is an Android permission. Open:
Settings → Security & permissions
Check these three:
- Notifications: granted.
- Exact alarms: granted. Without it Android is free to delay a reminder.
- Battery restriction: tap it and allow the app to work in the background.
Then use Send a test notification to confirm it arrives.
On some phones, Xiaomi, Huawei and Samsung in particular, you also have to set the app to no restrictions in the system battery settings. That switch is outside the app and Android does not let it be changed from here.
Rebuild notifications
If the permissions are right and something still does not arrive, you can clear the whole notification queue and schedule it again from scratch:
Settings → More → Expert options → Rebuild notifications
It is the only repair that cannot be done anywhere else.
In the same place, Scheduled notifications shows the real queue held by the phone, which is the fastest way to see whether a reminder was actually scheduled.
Notification sounds
From Android 8 the sound belongs to the notification channel, not to the app. So the app opens the system settings for the right channel instead of having its own picker.
Settings → App → Behaviour → Notifications → Notification sounds
There are two channels: Reminders and High-priority alerts.
The Pomodoro sound is not here. It is set inside the Pomodoro settings.
